A number of notable planning applications and decisions were published by Peterborough City Council in July.
Outline plans were approved for a major 1,130-home development on the edge of the city.
Marks & Spencer revealed plans to expand its Brotherhood store in Peterborough, potentially creating 50 new jobs.
Meanwhile, the council submitted its own application to install mechanical pool covers at The Lido on Bishops Road.

5. The Ploughman
Plans to convert a former community pub in Peterborough into a smaller sports bar and three retail units were resubmitted. Gujjar Investments Ltd previously applied to Peterborough City Council for permission to transform The Ploughman pub building at the Werrington District Centre, but the application was refused in April. This was due to the applicant not being able to justify the loss of a community facility as well as noise and parking concerns. A fresh application was submitted on July 24 which claimed to rectify the issues and city council planners will make a decision at a later date. Photo: LDRS

6. Norwood Urban Extension
Peterborough City Council’s planning committee unanimously approved plans for a 1,130-home development on the edge of the city. An outline planning application for the development on land to the east of Newborough Road in Paston was submitted in April 2023. The 40-hectare site forms just over half of the Norwood Urban Extension, which is allocated for 2,000 homes in total. An outline application for the other 870 homes was approved in June. A reserved matters application must be submitted before construction can begin on the 1,130 homes, which includes details of the appearance, landscaping, layout and scale of the development. 7. Posh community space
Plans were approved for a new community space in Peterborough United’s former club shop at the Weston Homes Stadium. The proposals, submitted by the club to Peterborough City Council in May and approved in July, will see the former club shop be used for various purposes including meetings, community activities such as yoga/pilates, and socialising on match days. The room will also house a bar and have its own accessible toilet, however, patrons will not be able to take drinks outside of the venue. Photo: Posh

8. Peterborough Lido
Peterborough City Council submitted an application for listed building consent in order to install mechanical pool covers at The Lido on Bishops Road. The main pool would be fitted with two independent cover systems, each installed at opposite corners along the short edge of the pool. The teaching pool would also be provided with one large single cover. With The Lido facing significant financial challenges, the covers would aim to enclose the main pool during non-operational hours, thereby reducing heat loss and operational costs. Photo: LDRS
