Cyclists complete city challenge to support upcoming sports taster event in Peterborough
A group of cyclists completed a city challenge at the weekend to support an upcoming community sports event in Peterborough.
Volunteers from Friends of Central Park and Fenland Clarion Cycling Club cycled to all six Co-op stores in less than three hours - Werrington, city centre, Thorpe Road, Oundle Road, Hampton and Hampton Hargate.

The Friends are being supported by the Co-op to organise an annual community sports taster day, ‘Activate’, on June 6th in Central Park.
They completed the feat on Saturday 7th February, to promote the Co-op’s Local Community Fund in Peterborough.
Naomh Campbell, the Co-op’s Member Activator, welcomed the cycle ride, saying: “It’s fantastic to see one of this year’s local causes in Peterborough, Friends of Central Park, promote themselves and their Activate project, which will provide opportunities for young people in the city to try out new sports, in such a novel way. Well done Friends!”
Naomh went on to explain that Co-op Members “can influence how and where we share our profits by choosing a local cause to support”.
The public are invited to support the Central Park project online. The more votes received, the greater the support they will receive from the Co-op for community sport.
Friends of Central Park also invites sports clubs to join the Activate event in June, to offer free taster sessions to children and help them gain publicity. Email [email protected] to express your interest.
Fenland Clarion Cycling Club is one such club that will participate in the event. The club offers coached cycling sessions to children and young people at the athletics track on Bishop’s Road, Fridays from 6.30-7.30. For details contact [email protected].
