Covid-busting technology from a Peterborough company could be a boon for the hospitality industry
A cutting-edge technology company is using its expertise to tackle the spread of Covid-19 in a development that could ease the plight of the hospitality industry.
Codem Composites, of Harrier Park, Orton Southgate, Peterborough, has used the lockdown to focus its skills on the development of a portable disinfection solution that is proven to kill Covid-19.
It has just launched the portable, battery-operated EosTower system that provides a quick way of disinfecting surfaces within enclosed spaces - ideal for industries that deal with a high turn-around of users.
The EosTower works by emitting a concentrated UVC ultraviolet light across 360 degrees and can disinfect a surface area of 15 metres in less than 15 minutes.
The system has been developed with global lighting experts AED and operates with its range of its UVC disinfection products.
Kevin Doherty, managing director of the Codem Group, said: “With worrying signs that we are seeing a second wave of Covid-19, I’m optimistic that we have been able to develop a product that will help many industries keep operational and create a cleaner, safer and healthier environment for both staff and customers.”
Codem Composites, which has 30 staff, is better known for its design and manufacture of carbon fibre components especially in the elite world of F1 racing.
But it took a hit during the pandemic and diversified the use of its technology.
The EosTower will be developed and sold under a new partnership venture with AED called Codem Environmental.
Mr Doherty said: “The EosTower is perfect for use in situations such as meeting, hotel or treatment rooms, where a quick and effective turnaround is needed.
“UVC light works as a disinfectant as it damages the virus or bacterial DNA preventing it from replicating and effectively killing or inactivating it.
“However, this also means that UVC light is hazardous to humans and animals if exposed, so the EosTower comes with multiple safety features to prevent accidental exposure.”
