Despite the major retailers placing limits on the number of each item which can be bought, and assuring people that there is enough for everyone, there was a large queue of shoppers outside Savers in Westgate this morning (Wednesday).

The retailer sells health, home and beauty products.

But while people are getting in early at the shops, they will not be able to bag a bargain at the Peterborough One (PE1) Retail Park car boot sale for the foreseeable future as it has been suspended.

Meanwhile, Tesco at Serpentine Green in Hampton has reduced its opening hours, with the store’s website stating that is now open from 6am to 10pm.

Bus operator Stagecoach also tweeted: “Stagecoach apologises to all our Early Service 6 passengers but due to the COVID-19 Virus Tesco’s has reduced the opening times at Serpentine Green for the foreseeable future which means we are unable to serve Serpentine Green between the hours of 22:00 & 06:00.”

Moreover, dozens of litter picks in Peterborough and Fenland will now not take place over the next month after the Great British Spring Clean was moved to September.

People planning to take part are urged to reschedule their activity for the new campaign period, instead of cancelling it.
