Among those to benefit include NHS staff, carers, teachers, supermarket workers and all emergency service personnel.

The Blue (Cavell) car park will offer this service from today (Friday) and until further notice. Key workers must register by emailing their name and car registration to [email protected] and, once validated, they can use the car park to assist in their essential travel.

“Key workers are doing an incredible job and I applaud every single person for helping to support their community during this testing time,” said centre director at Queensgate Mark Broadhead.

“Free parking is the least we can do to help key workers and make their necessary journeys as accommodating as possible.”

The centre is currently closed, but the M&S food hall is remaining open seven days a week, including exclusively for NHS and blue light staff on Tuesdays and Fridays from 8am to 9am, as well as for vulnerable people and the elderly on Mondays and Thursdays from 8am to 9am.

As well as M&S, the centre’s Boots store is also open seven days a week, and the When Polly Met Fergie restaurant is trading for takeaway delivery through UberEats, JustEat and online.

Access to Boots is via the Long Causeway entrance and access to M&S is via the centre’s Queen Street doors.
