Ishfaq Hussain handed over the personal protective equipment (PPE) to care homes including Philia Lodge Rest Home in Eastfield Road and The Star Nursing Home in Star Road on Monday to help top up supplies for staff.

The items had been donated by a company in London.

Ishfaq was joined by MP for Peterborough Paul Bristow as he handed over the masks to Laura Dunn-Green and Leanne Buckberry at Philia Lodge who both thanked him for the donation.

Leanne said: “We really do appreciate it. It meant a lot for us.”

Mr Bristow added: “A huge effort has been made getting PPE out to the frontline of our NHS, to care homes and to key workers like delivery drivers.

“Given the massive increase in needs, stocks were always going to be stretched at times as we battle against this virus.

“That’s why it’s great that a community volunteer, Ishfaq Hussain, was able to help. He got hold of crucial PPE and Community First made a list of care homes needing assistance.

“Those working in social care are doing a fantastic job protecting some of the most vulnerable in our city. The protective equipment is the very least they deserve.”
