Central England Co-operative, a funeral service operator in the city, said: “Our care centre in Fitzwilliam Street and associated local funeral homes are rapidly reaching maximum mortuary capacity as a result of the current pandemic and it has become urgently necessary to secure additional temporary mortuary accommodation in the area to enable the society to continue to support our community.”

The new mortuary will go at Burch House on the Saville Road Industrial Estate and would have enough space for up to 100 bodies.
