Coronavirus: Green Backyard closed, Civic Society suspends activities, VE Day event postponed

More groups and events in the Peterborough area have been affected by the coronavirus.

Community growing project Green Backyard on the corner of Oundle Road said: “The site will be closed to the public today (Wednesday) whilst we consider how we respond to latest government advice on Covid-19.

“We want to ensure that we have processes in place to limit any risk.

Peterborough Civic Society is also suspending all social activity until further notice.

This includes its:

• Monthly meetings at St Mark’s Church Hall for at least for April 20 and May 11

• Summer visits (three were planned and soon to be announced and promoted)

• Committee meetings for at least April and May.

Chairman David Turnock said: “The committee will continue to undertake activity such as monitoring planning applications and responding to press requests for comment, views and opinion.

“We will await national and local developments and see whether other future events will take place e.g. Heritage Festival. We will then plan our involvement or otherwise.

“If any individual member would like a visit, help or assistance please get in touch with one of our committee members - see the complete list on our website.

“Many thanks for your co-operation and forbearance. As soon as the situation improves | will contact you all again to let you know when activities will be resumed.”

Meanwhile, a commemoration event for VE Day at Sir Harry Smith Community College on Thursday, May 7 has been suspended.
