‘Clap for Carers’: Peterborough celebrates NHS and care workers as confirmed coronavirus cases rises for fourth straight day

Large numbers of people across Peterborough showed their support for the NHS and care workers on Thursday evening as part of a hugely successful nationwide campaign.

Residents joined the Royal Family and huge swathes of the country in the Clap for Carers campaign which saw people flock outdoors to applaud in appreciation of those working in the health sector.

People stood on their balconies and in their gardens to clap, joining the Prime Minister and royals including Prince Charles, while there was also a message from the Queen who paid tribute to those in science, health and the emergency and public services.

The campaign began online as the country remains on lockdown due to the spread of the coronavirus which has so far killed 578 people in the UK, including three at Peterborough City Hospital and one at Hinchingbrooke Hospital.

And the latest Public Health England figures have revealed that the number of confirmed cases in Peterborough has risen for the fourth straight day with the total now hitting 10, although only those with the worst symptoms are being tested.

The number of confirmed cases in Cambridgeshire has risen to 47. In Northamptonshire there have been 64 confirmed cases, while in Lincolnshire there have been 32.
