Cathedral service to say farewell to Vicar of Peterborough as he prepares to become Dean of Newport

A service will be held at Peterborough Cathedral to say farewell to Canon Ian Black, the Vicar of Peterborough, ahead of his move to Wales.

Canon Ian has been Vicar of Peterborough and a Residentiary Canon at Peterborough Cathedral since 2012, but has now been appointed as the new Dean of Newport in Wales.

A farewell Evensong will take place at Peterborough Cathedral on Sunday, April 25 at 3.30pm.

The service will be open to the public, and live streamed online. Booking is required for those who wish to attend in person.

Canon Ian will preach and readings will be for the Eve of the Feast of St Mark.

As Vicar of Peterborough, serving at St John the Baptist Church on Cathedral Square, Canon Ian has had close involvement with the civic life of the city and he is currently Chaplain to the Mayor. As Canon Residentiary of Peterborough Cathedral he not only takes a part in leading worship but is also part of Chapter, the Cathedral’s governing body. He has also served the diocese as Rural Dean of Peterborough for 5 years and has been a trustee of Light Project Peterborough.
