Buttons the pet cat had been missing for two days before he was spotted last weekend (Sunday) at the top of the electricity post in Hockney Hole Lane in Spalding. He was sitting on top of the transformer box located underneath the live cables, unable to free himself.

His owners called the RSPCA for help, and animal collection officer Justin Disdale arrived to assess the situation. With the risk of Buttons trying to jump down from the great height, or climb further up and touch the live wires, Justin had to act fast.

He said: “Knowing I’d need the support of the fire service and their ‘cherry picker’ device, I contacted Lincolnshire Fire & Rescue who were able to spare some time to help.

“Before long a crew arrived. They contacted Western Power to let them know of the situation and a small team joined us to make sure the power cut off before the fire officers attempted the rescue. Using their machine they slowly travelled up to Buttons, safely got hold of him and brought him back down to earth to his relieved owners.

“I gave him a quick check over and he seemed none the worse for his several-day ordeal, so his owners took him safely back indoors, no doubt to enjoy a good meal!”
