Big Ron Manager reunion announced as final fundraiser to bring Peterborough United legend Tommy Robson home with bronze statue

Fundraising efforts to create a statue of Peterborough United legend Tommy Robson have reached a grand finale with a special ‘Big Ron Manager’ reunion.

Many Posh fans will remember the infamous 2006 Sky One fly on the wall documentary which saw ex-manager turned “football troubleshooter” Ron Atkinson offer his support to struggling Football League sides.

After being asked to leave by Swindon after a month, Ron was invited into Posh by then owner Barry Fry to assist caretaker manager Steve Bleasdale.

The show was full of bust-ups and fall-outs, especially between Atkinson and Bleasdale and also highlighted the club’s financial plight.

It is said that the show brought the club to the attention on now owner Darragh MacAnthony who brought it off Barry Fry for £1 in September 2006.

An evening with Barry Fry and Ron Atkinson will take place at The Fleet Community Centre in Peterborough and will be hosted by BBC Radio 5 Live’s Pat Murphy on Thursday September 3 at 7:30pm.

Tickets are priced at £25 each and can be obtained by contacting Stuart George on 07799 581768.

Since Tommy Robson passed away in October 2020, efforts have been ongoing to raise money to have a bronze statue of him cast and placed at the club’s London Road stadium.

He holds the club's all-time appearance record with 559 and was awarded the Freedom of the City in 2020.

A similar successful project was completed for Chris Turner and the project with Robson is nearing another successful conclusion with over £100,000 raised.
