Arson-hit Iron Age roundhouse in Peterborough boosted by support from Anglian Water

Work to rebuild Peterborough’s fire-damaged replica Iron Age roundhouse has received a boost from Anglian Water.

Flag Fen roundhouse, located at the Flag Fen Archaeology Park in Whittlesey, was destroyed in an arson attack last year – resulting in a huge loss for the community.

The structure had been visited by numerous schoolchildren over the years, helping them to learn about the Peterborough area’s rich history.

An Anglian Water spokesperson said: “To help with the rebuild and restructure of the building, Anglian Water’s @one Alliance donated £5,000 to bring the structure back to life and return yesterday’s history to the present day.”

Along with the donation, colleagues from the Alliance volunteered to repaint parts of the museum and helped around the park to support the installation of the new roundhouses.

Becky Housden, Assistant Project Manager and volunteer lead, said: “Following the devastating fire at Flag Fen and knowing its importance to the local community, we wanted to support in the rebuild of the museum to ensure visitors can continue to learn and enjoy its history for years to come.

“It was a really rewarding day, and a great chance to give something back locally for this part of the region.”

The water company is also completing essential upgrade work at Flag Fen’s water recycling centre, focusing on tackling pollution challenges and improving the water quality that is leaving the site.
