A first look inside Peterborough's new Hickory's Smokehouse

There is not long now until Peterborough’s latest dining out destination – Hickory’s Smokehouse – opens its doors…. and here’s a sneak preview to whet your appetite.

You will find it in Kempley Close, Hampton, and on first impressions it is well worth the wait – it opens on Friday.

It is a great looking place with the layout, decor and the theatre of the open kitchen creating a real taste-of-America vibe, and its family friendly, too.

There’s lots of tables-for-two or four, bigger tables for family and friends, booths for more intimate dining.

Keen to attract those who like a drink and or a bite to eat while watching their favourite sports, there’s a decent sized bar area with plenty of big screens.

The outside terrace is a bonus when the sun’s is shining and there’s a kids’ play area too – not to mention a mini-cinema showing family favourites.

And then there’s the food.. a real taste of the South.

Where to start: Pulled pork, low and slow smoked beef brisket, beef ribs, baby back ribs, burgers galore, chicken, chicken wings, sausages….. and all lovingly prepared by the “pitmasters” in charge of the smokers.

Can’t decide, try one of the barbecue trays – Hog Heaven, Bird in the Herd, Carnivore – for seemingly a bit of everything!

Oh, and there’s sides a plenty.
