150 jobs to be created in Peterborough as manufacturer moves into city

A leading manufacturing company will create up to 150 jobs with a move to Peterborough.

Electrical equipment maker NJ Froment and Co, based in Stamford, is looking to expand its operations with the opening of major new premises in Orton Southgate.

The firm is seeking to move into the former Amazon warehouse at Southgate Way and which has been empty for about two years.

The company says it will create 108 jobs and expects to create a further 40 jobs with predicated growth in the near future.

Bosses of the company have just submitted a planning application to Peterborough City Council to carry out a number of alterations to the premises, ranging from building a two storey production support accommodation built inside the existing warehouse, the creation of new plantrooms, the installation of a 30 tonnes lifting crane in a rear yard and alterations to the car park.

A consultant for 3D Planning, acting on behalf of the company, states: “The company is currently located on a relatively small and constrained site in Easton on the Hill near Stamford.

Expansion on the existing site may be difficult given its rural location and as an option the company has decided to look for suitable alternative premises as close to the existing site as possible.

“A number of sites in Bourne, Stamford and elsewhere in Peterborough have been considered and dismissed in their search for appropriate new premises.”

"The additional site at Orton Southgate will support future growth and opportunities in the UK.

It adds: “The proposal will bring 108 new jobs to Peterborough and could bring an increase of a further 40 jobs to Peterborough with predicted growth and expansion.”

A spokesperson for NJ Froment said the company was expanding due to the growth of the business and the Peterborough site would be an additional base.
