It’s hard to imagine Peterborough’s most famous city centre streets today bustling with cars and buses.
But these photos take us back to the days before Cathedral Square, Long Causeway and Bridge Street were pedestrianised.
These parts of the city centre may now have been pedestrianised for several decades and it’s difficult to think of them laden with traffic, but once upon a time that was very much the case.
The photos in the gallery below also show the many businesses which have come and gone over the decades, including Brierley’s and Woolworths.
Do you remember the days when cars ran along Cathedral Square, Long Causeway and Bridge Street?
With the help of the brilliant Peterborough Images Archive, we’ve taken a look at these areas prior to pedestrianisation.
