To those of us considered part of Generation Z - that’s people born between 1997 and 2012 - it’s difficult to imagine what life was like in the late 1970s.
Over the years, many of us are guilty of putting either a positive or negative spin on a particular era depending on which argument we’re taking part in at any given time.
Defined by events such as the Queen’s Silver Jubilee, the birth of punk and the Winter of Discontent, it’s fair to say that the late 1970s was a turbulent time for England.

With those born in the latter part of the 1970s soon turning 50, we thought we’d take a look back at Peterborough people lucky enough to be photographed during that time.
Featuring faces from all corners of society, including firefighters, schoolchildren and shop workers, these photos provide a diverse sample of Peterborough people back in the late ‘70s.
You may recognise one or two faces in the gallery below, but even if you don’t we’re sure the snaps will make for interesting viewing.
Thanks, as ever, goes to Paul Young from Peterborough Images Archive and Chris Porsz for their help with our retro galleries.
