This coming Monday (August 31) marks the final bank holiday in the UK until Christmas Day, drawing a line under the summer of 2026.
Not everyone is lucky enough to have the summer bank holiday off work, but for many it’s seen as a bonus day off and one final opportunity to enjoy the warm weather.
The way we spend the summer bank holiday has changed a lot over the years.
Those of a certain age will no doubt have fond memories of leaving Peterborough for the day to visit seaside towns like Great Yarmouth and Cromer.
Or, if you chose to stay in the city, how about a day at the Lido with friends or an afternoon gallivanting around Ferry Meadows?
Of course, years ago we never had the distraction of sitting on our phones all day.
To get you feeling all nostalgic about summer bank holidays as they used to be, we’ve picked out 10 nostalgic photos which evoke memories of Peterborough bank holidays in the 1970s, ‘80s and ‘90s.
