Local Elections 2026: Fletton and Stanground isn’t just where I live — it’s home
I thought I would take the opportunity to remind people that May 7th will see "local" elections in Peterborough, with 18 seats up for grabs, writes Conservative Group press officer John Howard.
And in the Fletton & Stanground ward, you couldn't get more local than our hard-working candidate Neil Seekings, who was born and raised in Stanground and has spent most of his life here.

Like many residents, Neil cares deeply about the community and the direction it’s heading in. That’s why he's decided to stand in the upcoming elections.
Neil says: "For me, this campaign is not about national politics or personalities. It’s about local people, local issues, and who is willing to work hardest for residents and take action where it matters.
"That’s especially important this year. Earlier in the year, residents were told their local elections would be cancelled — a decision put forward by Labour and backed by the Lib Dems and Peterborough First.
"Following public outcry, that decision was reversed and our democratic right to have our say has been restored.
"Over recent months, I’ve been speaking to residents across the ward and hearing first-hand about the issues that matter most to them. Time and again, the same concerns come up — crime and anti-social behaviour, fly-tipping, parking pressures and the condition of our roads and pavements."
These are real issues that affect people’s daily lives and at Fletton Quays in particular, he's been working with residents to understand ongoing concerns around anti-social behaviour, safety and build quality. This is something he will continue to push on, working closely with our Combined Authority Mayor, Paul Bristow, to ensure residents see real improvements.
"Even before being elected, I’ve been taking action where I can — reporting highways faults, raising concerns with the council, and engaging with local policing teams about visibility and response times," Neil adds.
I believe people want to see action, not just promises. That’s the approach I will continue to take if I’m elected.
"We also need to be honest about value for money. This year, Labour and their coalition have increased council tax increased by almost 5%, yet residents feel that services are not improving — and in many cases, are declining.
"That isn’t good enough.
"I will be pushing for a stronger focus on value for money and a “right first time” approach ensuring local services deliver for residents."
This also links to the wider vision being set out for Peterborough. The Conservatives have put forward an ambitious plan focused on safer streets, stronger enforcement, and supporting growth in a way that benefits residents.
Local elections are about accountability. Residents should ask themselves a simple question: has Fletton and Stanground improved in recent years?
If the answer is no, then it’s time for a change.
"Local elections matter because they shape the services we all rely on — from safer streets to cleaner neighbourhoods and better infrastructure, so I would encourage everyone to make sure they are registered to vote and take part."
