The sight of traffic wardens ticketing cars next to boarded up empty shops is a sure sign the councils up and down the country are losing the plot.

But Peterborough City Council are driving another nail in the coffin of our struggling city centre – £2 to park for an hour to nip into a couple of shops or the bank/library is excessive.

On some streets 30 minute parking gives you no time even to queue at the bank (always), let alone pop into a shop or grab (literally) a coffee which is unachievable.

Avoiding town is easy, there are plenty of alternatives.
