As Peterborough ends the year in Tier 4 and on high alert nobody in the city thinks we’re through the woods yet. But life went on, of course, and inPeterborough there was, as usual, the good, the bad and the ugly.
Today, in my end of year awards I pick the people who despite everything had a good year.
It is of course wildly subjective and I’m aware that this year of all years many ordinary people did extraordinary things with no fanfare and no recognition.
Anyway, and in no particular order, here’s my list of the Peterborough people of 2020.
A very happy Christmas to all of them and to all of you.
See you next year... hopefully at some point without masks and social distancing!

Zoe Wareham - An intensive care nurse at Peterborough City Hospital, Zoe, from Eye, too made national news and the front page of the Peterborough Telegraph when she sent her children to live with their grandparents so they could be safe while she worked on the coronavirus frontlines. Zoe contacted the PT to publicly thank her children Phoebe (8) and Milo (4) for being her heroes. Zoe’s sacrific, like that of so many medical and care staff, makes her one of my heroes. Ivan Toney - Sadly, Ivan is no longer of this parish. The former Posh striker sealed a big money mover to Brentford where he is scoring for fun at a higher level. Had it not been for coronavirus, his goals might have powered Posh to promotion. Even so, while he was at London Road, he delivered entertainment and joy to thousands of Posh fans... and that is something worth shouting about... even on deserted terraces. Photo: Midlands
