On The Radio: Where the hits keep coming back!
Firstly, can I begin by saying thank you to the Peterborough Telegraph for giving Boomerang Radio a regular monthly column, writes Station Manager Bill Hensley.
Over the coming weeks and months, we will share news about the radio station, we will provide details about local events that we are involved in, and we will put a spotlight on our presenters.

So, Boomerang Radio – who are we? We are Peterborough and Cambridgeshire’s newest and fastest growing radio station.
We aim to fill the gap that was left by the demise of local radio stations such as Hereward Radio, Classic Gold, and Lite FM by bringing proper local radio back.
As well as playing songs that are instantly recognisable from the 1960s to the early 2000s, we will be regularly talking to local charities and community groups, attending as many events as possible within the area, and we’ll support local businesses – from one-man operations to larger companies – with advertising and sponsorship.
Our presentation team is headed up by Chris Tibbles who presents Boomerang Breakfast, weekday mornings from 6 to 10am, including local news, weather and travel. We’ve also got other familiar names on our schedule including Pete Tee (former Lite FM and WGMS), Gary Ball and Gavin Samways (both formerly of Hereward FM and Lite FM), Jo Bailey and Andy Barnes (both formerly Lite FM) and Martin Chillcott, amongst others.
Our full schedule includes regular shows throughout the week such as Boomerang Breakfast with Chris Tibbles and The Highway Home with Pete Tee, as well as weekly soul & Motown, country, and soft rock shows. Full details of who is on and when can be found on our website and app.
100% digital, we can be heard on DAB+ across Peterborough and the surrounding towns and villages, through the Boomerang Radio app – which is free to download from wherever you get your apps from, either on your phone or tablets, through smart speakers – tell them to ‘enable Boomerang Radio UK’, and through the website boomerangradio.co.uk.
You may ask why we are a digital only radio station and not on FM. Well, there are a couple of reasons. The first is that the chance of OFCOM advertising another FM licence in the Peterborough area soon is very slim. The second is because it is very clear that the future of radio is digital. Of the 86% of the UK population that listen to the radio, 75% of them tune into digital radio every week (42% DAB Radio, 19% smart speakers, 11% via radio station websites and apps, and 3% via radio on Digital TV).
