The public had the chance to squirt water like a firefighter, experience what it is like to ride in a fire engine and watch firefighting demonstrations. Safety was also on the agenda as advice was offered in interactive displays, and partner agencies including the police and ambulance service offered their skills and experiences.

The community also made donations to good causes on the day, which have totalled £2,300. The Fire Fighters Charity will be one beneficiary and local fire crews will now identify other good causes to support.

Firefighter Phil Gould, organiser of the event, said: “Once again the day was packed with excitement and fun and we cannot thank the community of Peterborough for coming out and supporting us.

“The weather held out and even though the fire crews had to pop out to a few emergencies, the public still had the chance to watch their demonstrations, learn about kit and meet some of their local firefighters.”
