£500k to improve Peterborough park play areas approved

More than £500,000 is to be spent carrying out improvements to play areas at parks in Peterborough.

The city council received £1 million from the Government’s Towns Fund to improve its parks and open spaces, with more than half to be used on improvements including installing new equipment, improving pathways and new benches, bins and fencing.

The 12 places to benefit will be:

. Fulbridge Road

. Hodgson Avenue

. Itter Park

. Vermont Grove

. Welland Rec

. Baker Park

. Parnwell

. Wistow

. Longthorpe Memorial

. Lyvelly Gardens

. Wesleyan Road

. Bishops Road.

In addition, improvement works are also being carried out in Stanley Rec and Bretton Park.

The city council has now decided to allocate £567,687 of funding to its own trading company Peterborough Limited to deliver the project, which will see the works sub-contracted out.

All new equipment which is installed will be owned by the council.

The authority said the timescale for the works has yet to be decided.
