New mural to 'rejuvenate' Peterborough underpass takes shape

Work to transform an underpass in Peterborough is beginning to take shape.

The transformation is set to take place at an underpass in Werrington which links Hemsdale Gardens and Carron Drive to Dukesmead and Benedict Square.

The artwork for the new mural is being carried out by well-known local street artist Nathan Murdoch.

Local wildlife has been represented in the form of a mallard, heron, fox and rabbit while the opposite side features a depiction of a bus and a steam train.

The walls are also adorned with the place names ‘Werrington’ and ‘Dukesmead.’

Sally Weald from Werrington Neighbourhood Council said: “Werrington Neighbourhood Council are delighted to have commissioned Nathan Murdoch to rejuvenate the Dukesmead underpass with a new mural.

“The Neighbourhood Council is funding this from the Community Infrastructure Levy from proceeds raised from recent local developments to fund Werrington projects. The initial project was instigated by Cllr Sarah Hillier who collated ideas from residents.”
