The authority has switched supplier to Total Gas and Power which will last until September 30, 2024.
The green tariff will help the council meet its stated goals of achieving 100 per cent clean energy across its full range of functions by 2030.

Hide AdBy using energy generated through environmentally-friendly processes such as wind and solar, the council will pay approximately £13,500 a year more than if it had agreed a non-green tariff.
But when asked if the tariffs under the new contract are an increase on its previous deal, a council spokeswoman said the information was “commercially sensitive”.
The new gas tariff lasts until March 31, 2023, but the council said: “The new supplier for gas does not currently have a carbon neutral product. While they are working on this, it is unlikely to be available this year and at this stage we have no estimation of financial impact once this is available.”
The new deals have been backdated to April 1, when the new suppliers began to be used.

Hide AdIt is expected that the electricity costs will be just under £9.5 million, while the gas costs are estimated at just over £1 million.
There are no break clauses in the contract.
Switching to a green electricity tariff is one of the council’s declared ‘top 20’ actions for 2020/21.
