The statistics, from The Ministry of Housing Communities and Local Government, show that on average, there are fewer collisions that lead to pedestrians and cyclists being hurt in Peterborough than the rest of the country.
But the numbers do reveal that there are some hotspots – and while the city centre is, perhaps unsurprisingly, the area with the highest rate - there are others that are above the national average.
The figures – which are recorded as the number of incidents per 1,000 people – use open data for 2019 to 2023 published by the Department for Transport (DfT), with five years of data used to reduce the problem of small numbers in some areas.
The rate for England as a whole is 0.54 accidents per 1,000 people – while for Peterborough as a whole, it is 0.47 accidents per 1,000 people.
However, eight of the 22 council wards in the city does stand above the 0.54 national rate.
