Shocking figures reveal number of people killed on Cambridgeshire roads in 2025 as police make plea to motorists

Police are urging motorists to make a New Year’s resolution to drive safer – as figures reveal 36 people were killed on the county’s roads in 2025.

Hundreds more were injured in traffic collisions this year – some of which have been left with life-altering injuries.

Casualty Reduction Officer AJ Boddington said the “fatal five” causes of serious collisions - alcohol and drugs, speeding, not wearing a seat belt, mobile phones, and careless driving or riding – were all “choices”.

During the past year, 36 people were killed, including 12 motorcyclists, and more than 350 seriously injured on Cambridgeshire roads.

PC Boddington said many of the collisions were avoidable and urged the public to make a resolution to take responsibility and help reduce collisions in 2026.

“I review all collisions involving serious injury or a fatality and we need to address the root causes – primarily the fatal five,” he said.

“Road safety is the responsibility of all motorists and together we can make a difference.

“Make plans for how you are getting home before you go out and drink alcohol, book taxis or have a designated driver. Illegal drugs remain in your system for weeks and can impair your reaction times.

“Drive at appropriate speeds for the roads and conditions, ensure you have your seatbelt on and avoid distractions like mobile phones.

“Allow yourself and other drivers time and space and there is no excuse for aggressive driving.”

PC Boddington also urged motorists to check their vehicle was roadworthy, and for cyclist and motorcyclists to wear visible protective equipment.

Those who privately own e-scooters are reminded they are not permitted in public spaces.

The Vision Zero Partnership runs various courses, Bike Safe, Biker Down, Older Driver Workshops, Young Driver Presentations and Bespoke Driving for Business Workshops for those wanting to go the extra mile.
