Second World War bomb closes roads and causes businesses to be evacuated in Wisbech

Bomb squad called to deal with device

Roads were closed and businesses evacuated after staff at a Wisbech firm found what they thought was a ‘missile from either the First or Second World War.’

Emergency services were called yesterday morning (August 27) to Weasenham Lane, Wisbech following the discovery.

A Cambridgeshire Police spokesperson said: “At about 10.20am yesterday morning we received a 999 call from staff at Lamb Weston in Weasenham Lane, Wisbech, after they found the object at their potato processing plant! “Concerned it looked like the head of a missile from either WW1 or WW2, officers from our response and neighbourhood teams attended and nearby roads were closed, along with some business being evacuated while a cordon was put in place. “The EOD were called out who assessed the object and confirmed it is the nose of a WW2 practice bomb! “It's now been taken away by the EOD to be disposed of.”
