Police were called to reports of a car crashing into a support pillar of the building at Napier Place in Orton Wistow.
One of the support pillars of the row of shops has been mostly destroyed with part of the car bumper left behind.
Officers arrived on the scene at just past 6:30pm on Monday evening and cordoned off a large part of the row of shops located at the centre.
The pillar that was struck sits just in front of the former Halls the Chemist vaccination centre. Fosters Barbershop remained closed into Monday morning, after it was due to open, as did Vivienne Fish & Chips.
Halls The Chemist itself remained open but barriers have been installed to prevent customers going inside and instead pharmacists are meeting people outside to answer their needs and only going inside to fetch prescriptions.
Business owners are hoping to reopen as soon as possible but are waiting on reports from structural engineers.
Witnesses told to PT that the crash was caused by a driver in a large white Polestar who shot forward rather than reversing out of a car space right in front of the row of shops, hit the curb and then proceeded to travel forward and make contact with the supporting pillar.
The driver nor anyone at the scene suffered any injuries.
Luke Pridie from Fosters Barbershop confirmed: “A man put his car in drive instead of reverse and ploughed through one pillar before hitting a second one. Thankfully no one was hurt .
“A support post has been put in place but e are currently waiting for the buildings to be deemed structurally safe to open.
“We apologies for any inconvenience this will cause our customers.”
A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Police: “We were called at 6.35pm on Monday (25 May) to Napier Place in Peterborough after reports a car had collided with a chemist.
“There were no injuries and no arrests.”
