Road closure in place as Anglian Water begins emergency sewer repairs in Orton Goldhay, Peterborough
Emergency repair works are underway to the sewage pipes in Orton Goldhay.
The issue first began on Wednesday and subsequent works have let to the closure of a section of Goldhay Way, close to the traffic lights that separate Pennington and Alnwick.
Initially large tankers were brought to the area to keep the sewage system working but these have been replaced by overground pipes.
The road will remain closed until the repair is completed but Anglian Water has not yet been able to confirm when the road may reopen.

The company has said that “because the damaged pipe is large and very deep under the ground, our teams are still deciding what approach to take for the actual repair.”
Anglian Water added that: “The emergency repair work on one of our sewers in the Pennington area of Peterborough is progressing well.
“We’ve now been able to stop using tankers to take away wastewater to our nearby treatment works. We’ve swapped to using overland pipes and pumps instead to move wastewater from the damaged part of the sewer into another part of the network.
"To use our pumps and pipes safely we’ve had to close Goldhay Way North at the cross roads with Pennington and Alnwick. This will stay in place until we’ve made our repair.”
