Drivers warned as car bursts into flames on Peterborough road

Delays are currently expected on Peterborough roads after a car caught fire at the side of the road.

The Vauxhall Astra caught fire on the Soke Parkway, A47 at the junction between Eye Road and Welland Road.

One eyewitness told the Peterborough that they saw the driver of the car getting help at the side of the road before the car burst into flames and that a lorry had stopped just behind to ease the traffic.

She added: “Luckily there was no-one in the car. A lorry stopped just behind us to stop the traffic. So scary.”

A statement on social media from Cambridgeshire Police said: “Soke Parkway. A47 Junction Eye Rd/ Welland Rd. Car on fire on eastbound carriage.

“Drivers please be aware of road closures and smoke hazard.”
