UPDATE: Police hunt attacker who stabbed man in Gunthorpe

Police are hunting an attacker who stabbed a dog walker in Gunthorpe yesterday afternoon (Saturday, January 30).

The victim, a man in his 30s, was walking his dog in Gunthorpe Ridings at about 4.15pm when he was approached by a man in a white van.

The man got out of the vehicle and accused the victim of stealing his dog before pulling out a black knife and stabbing the victim in his back.

He made off in the white van, leaving the victim with serious injuries to his lower back and hand.

The victim made his way to the nearby Harrier pub where an ambulance was called and transferred him to Peterborough City Hospital. He has since been discharged but required surgery on his hand at Addenbrooke’s Hospital today (Sunday, January 31).

DC Paul Twell said: “The offender is black, mid to late 30s, about 5ft 10ins tall, skinny, with afro style hair and wore a grey jumper and blue jeans.

“I urge anyone who witnessed the assault or knows who is responsible to contact police immediately. I would like to reassure members of the public that we believe this was an isolated incident and do not believe there is any threat to the wider community.”
