Thief who targeted music store HMV twice has been banned from Peterborough’s Queensgate Shopping Centre

A thief who targeted music store HMV twice in two days has been banned from Peterborough’s Queensgate Shopping Centre.

Cambridgeshire police say that Ionut Radu (32) of Park Lane, Eastfield, Peterborough, stole three pairs of Hello Kitty headphones from the store.

Now he has been handed a two-year criminal behaviour order banning him from Queensgate shopping centre at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court.

The police spokesperson said: “Radu entered HMV, in Queensgate, on January 12 and stole a pair of the children’s headphones.

“He then returned to the store the following day and stole another two pairs of the same product.

"Officers from the spree offender team spotted Radu walking into Sports Direct on January 19 and arrested him for the thefts.

Radu appeared at the magistrates’ court on January 20 where he admitted the offences and was ordered to pay £81.97 in compensation as well as being banned from the Queensgate for two years.

Afterwards, PC Jack Jenkins, from the spree offender team, said: “Radu clearly planned these thefts as CCTV footage showed him constantly on the lookout for staff and trying to hide while putting the items in his pocket.

“CBOs are a great way for us to tackle prolific offenders as we can arrest for any breaches.

"I encourage businesses to report potential offences to us so we can take action.”
