Thief is jailed for nine months after threatening store security staff in Peterborough

A thief who threatened shop security staff in Peterborough with what they feared was a flick knife has been jailed.

Cambridgeshire police said that Mark Jenkins (41) had started swinging the weapon towards the staff at B&M, in Boongate, Peterborough.

Police say that Jenkins spat at the staff and kicked them, before being detained and disarmed of the knife, which was in fact a flick comb.

A police spokesperson said that staff had approached Jenkins after he hid a pasty inside his jacket.

Police were called and he then threatened and was abusive to officers who arrested him during the incident on April 15 this year.

Cambridgeshire police say that on February 26 this year, Jenkins, who is also known as Mark Pomroy, broke into The Burghley, in Burghley Road, Peterborough, and stole an RNLI charity tin, multiple bottles of spirits, as well as drinking two small bottles of red wine and then discarding the empties on the floor.

Police say that Jenkins was captured on CCTV and his fingerprints were found at the scene.

Jenkins, of no known address, admitted burglary, theft from a shop, two counts of using threatening, abusive, or insulting words with intent to cause fear of violence, common assault, and possession of an offensive weapon.

He was jailed for nine months at a hearing at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on April 17.

Afterwards, DC Hannah Worthington said: “Jenkins behaved disgracefully as he threatened staff and spat at them.

“We’re working closely with businesses to combat retail crime, and we won’t tolerate attacks on staff.”
