The Cattle Market car park in Stamford has reopened after it was cleared of travellers.

Several caravans were parked on the site late last week, making it impossible for drivers to use the car park. The occupation also forced the cancellation of Lincolnshire County Council’s waste collection on Saturday.

The travellers left the car park by about 2pm yesterday (Sunday) after being served notice by the authorities.

A spokesman for South Kesteven District Council, which runs the Cattle Market car park, said: “The car park has now fully reopened following the group’s departure from the site on Sunday.

“Notice was served on the group and the authority worked in partnership with other bodies to enforce its rules as necessary.”

The county council said it would increase the capacity of the waste collection this coming Saturday to make up for the cancellation.
