Police urge lorry drivers to "remain vigilant" following incident on A17 at Spalding

Lincolnshire Police is urging lorry drivers and haulage company owners to “remain vigilant” after hundreds of litres of diesel were reported stolen from one vehicle.

Police say the incident is believed to have happened overnight on 10 February when the lorry was parked on a layby on Washway Road on the A17.

“It could be that not all thefts have been reported to us, but we would like to issue the following advice to help prevent further reports,” a force spokesperson said.

“If no system has been fitted, try fitting a closed shackle padlock to the fuel cap. This makes it difficult to access the tank, and possibly generate more noise which could alert the driver.

“If dashcam is fitted, ensure it is recording.

“Ensure that you park in a recognised lorry car park, or a location that isn’t too remote.

“If you are a victim, please report this by calling 101.”
