Earlier this week it was warned the riders - who have been pulling wheelies and racing along pavements throughout the day - were putting lives at risk.

But despite the warning, the problem has got even worse, making residents’ lives a misery as they are stuck inside during the coronavirus lockdown.

Orton Waterville councillor Julie Howell said: “This is as bad as ever today. Loads of kids on motorbikes zooming round the streets making people stuck at home really stressed. Don’t their parents care that they’re out there?

“People are getting really anxious. I’m a councillor not a counsellor, but I’m expected to keep people calm while they are being tortured by the noise and are extremely worried about the spread of the virus. We need more police out here in Orton not just in the city centre.”

Cambridgeshire police have now stepped up patrols to put an end to the motorcycle menace.

A spokesman said: “We are aware of reports of nuisance behaviour involving motorbikes being ridden antisocially by a group of young people in Orton Malborne and Orton Goldhay.

“To address the ongoing issue, patrols have been increased in the area by dedicated officers from the local neighbourhood policing team.

“We ask the public to continue to report any information they have about anti-social behaviour to us, specifically in this case any descriptions and registration plates of the bikes involved and descriptions of those riding them.

“The more information we have, the better picture we can build and the more efficient we can be at targeting those responsible. Anyone who experiences anti-social behaviour similar to the above is urged to report this online via www.cambs.police.uk/report or by calling 101.”
