Police search teams tape off allotments and woodland near murder scene in Peterborough

Police search teams have taped off areas of woodland and allotments near the scene of a murder in Peterborough

Officers have been searching woodland near Winyates, Orton Goldhay today (Saturday, January 20) and have taped off nearby allotments.

Officers have not confirmed the reason for the searches or whether they are linked to the scene of a murder investigation nearby.

Forensic officers were also seen searching a property in nearby Brudenell, Orton Goldhay.

A murder investigation was launched on Friday (February 19) after a man died following an assault.

A cordon has been in place at the scene in Brudenell since early on Friday morning.

Police have confirmed that they were called to reports of violence in the area in the early hours of Friday morning and that a man was taken to hospital, and later died as a result of his injuries.

A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Police said on Friday: “Police were called at 4.43am to reports of violence in Brudenell, Orton Goldhay.

“Emergency services attended and a man in his 30s was taken to Peterborough City Hospital in a critical condition, but later died as a result of his injuries.

“Officers remain at the scene and an investigation is ongoing.
