Police response to Paston street party ‘totally unacceptable’ - LETTER

I have read the response (online) from the police about the incident (large gathering) in Paston and find it totally unacceptable that this situation was not handled before larger groups turned up, moreover especially when we are supposed to be on lockdown.

The sheer number of people out in the street playing music and so close to one another is very serious for another outbreak of Covid 19.

The police say they were overstretched, that may well be the case they were far more overstretched after the horse had bolted so to speak, and so were the ambulance crews who would not have been needed if this had been nipped in the bud.

The time it took for this situation to be handled is not acceptable - gone 1am in the morning. If I lived in that area I would be looking at my local MP and whoever is in charge of policing and asking some very serious questions as to why this was allowed to escalate in the way that It did.

This is not making it any easier for those of us who are sticking to the rules and who cannot even be close to family members. It does not send very good signals to the community when the police cannot enforce the law.
