The measure has been taken by the local policing team in response to two incidents involving groups of men fighting last night.

The first happened near the Crown pub in Lincoln Road, New England, at about 10.30pm and the second near Welland Medical Practice, in Eye Road, at just before midnight.

The order will be in effect from 7pm today (March 1) until 7am tomorrow and covers the New England and Millfield areas bordered by Fulbridge Road, Soke Parkway, Bourges Boulevard, Bright Street, Geneva Street, Park Road, Dogsthorpe Road and St Paul’s Road.

The order has been granted under Section 34 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, and allows for Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) and police officers to direct a person to leave the area specified within the order if they have reasonable grounds to suspect that their behaviour has caused, or is likely to cause, harassment, alarm or distress to members of the public. Failure to comply with the order can result in arrest.
