Police negotiators on scene as Peterborough road remains cordoned off

Police negotiators are currently at the scene on a Peterborough road which has been cordoned off for more than nine hours.

Officers were called to Earls Close in Fletton at about 2am, and the road remains cordoned off.

Other areas of Fletton - including the High Street - were closed by police earlier in the morning, although some of the disruption has now ended away from Earls Close.

A Police spokesman said: “Officers are currently at an address in Earls Close, Peterborough. Officers attended the scene at about 2am in an attempt to arrest a man.

“Officers, including negotiators, are at the scene and a cordon is in place.”

A nearby resident said: “We were woken by the sounds of a police helicopter at 3am, so assumed that some kind of serious incident was happening nearby.

“We’ve lived in Fletton for several years and it’s normally really quiet around here, particularly so in recent weeks following the Covid restrictions. We hope everyone involved is ok.”
