Police investigate three racist abuse incidents '˜that could be deemed to have happened as a result of the EU referendum'

Police are investigating three incidents of racist abuse in Peterborough 'that could be deemed to have happened as a result of the EU referendum.'

The Constabulary are staying fairly tight-lipped about the exact nature of the allegations, to avoid copycat incidents, but a spokesman said one involved a person of Asian descent and another two of people who are European.

The news comes after offensive leaflets about Polish people were found in Huntingdon.

A police spokesman said there have been no recent reports of hate related literature in Peterborough.

He added: “We have received three reports of prejudice incidents in Peterborough that could be deemed to have happened as a result of the EU referendum.

“These took place in Townsend Close, Welland Road and Watergall. They all involved verbal abuse. We will not tolerate this kind of behaviour and encourage anyone who has been the victim of a prejudice incident to report it.”

No arrests have been made in relation to the three incidents. However, the spokesman said they are being investigated thoroughly and that the force is working with the victims of crime.

Anyone with information on these prejudice incidents or who has been a victim should contact police on 101 or report online via www.report-it.org.uk/.
