The order, which has been authorised by an inspector, gives police officers more powers to search people and vehicles under Section 60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994.

The attacks have been on vehicles and properties in the Eastfield, New England and Millfield areas.

DI Dave Taylor said: “The order is in place again until 8pm tonight (Thursday) to continue disrupting any criminal activity in the specified areas. Our information still suggests these are targeted attacks and there is no risk to the general public, however, we continue with these measures in order to prevent further instances from happening.”
