Police close Peterborough streets after violence breaks out

Police have closed two roads in Peterborough after a ‘number of people were assaulted by people using weapons.’

There is currently a large police presence on Dogsthorpe, with Cedar Grove, Figtree Walk and Welland Road closed off by officers.

There are also a number of ambulances at the scene.

A Cambridgeshire Police spokesman said: “A section of Welland Road has been closed near to the junction with Cedar Grove following reports of violence in Dogsthorpe.

“We were called at 10.35am this morning (Thursday 21 May) with reports that a number of people had been assaulted and weapons had been used.

“The incident is very much ongoing at this stage. It is not clear how many people have been injured and the severity of any such injuries.

“Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact police either by calling 101 or reporting online at www.cambs.police.uk/report.”

People are advised to avoid the area if they can avoid it.
