Peterborough motorists putting lives at risk as nine drink drive arrests over weekend

PC Jon Morris, casualty reduction officer, said: “This is a shocking number, especially considering pubs and restaurants are closed. Even a small amount of alcohol can affect your driving ability.

“There is no excuse for driving whilst under the influence of alcohol as it creates a feeling of overconfidence, makes judging distance and speed more difficult and slows your response reactions.

“Remember, our officers can’t be everywhere but they could be anywhere, so please don’t gamble with your life or your future by driving after consuming alcohol. It’s really not worth the risk.”

Five out of the nine people arrested were charged, two were released under investigation and two have been released with no further action.

The force operates a dedicated, confidential hotline for members of the public to report drink or drug driving.

The hotline, 0800 032 0845, is available 24/7 and gives people the chance to supply the police with information to help reduce the number of drink or drug drivers on the county’s roads.

Being caught drink or drug driving could result in a 12-month driving ban, up to six months in prison, a fine of up to £2,500 and a criminal record.

The nine arrests included: “

Peycho Koshincharov, 54, of Little Close, Eye – gave a reading of 90 (the legal limit is 35). Charged with drink driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision. Bailed to appear at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on 9 July

Jasmin Beckwith, 25, of Qua Fen Common, Soham – gave a reading of 57. Charged with drink driving and has been bailed to appear at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on 9 July

Ale Vanseviute, 36, of St Martin’s Street, Peterborough – gave a reading of 106. Charged with drink driving and has been bailed to appear at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on 16 July

Dariusz Wiorkiewicz, 24, of Rathbone Crescent, Peterborough – gave a reading of 111. Charged with drink driving and has been bailed to appear at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on 16 July

William Flatt, 32, of New Hey Road, Huddersfield – gave a reading of 90. Charged with taking a car without the owner’s consent, drink driving, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance and has been bailed to appear at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on 16 July

30-year-old woman from Bretton – failed to provide a specimen, released under investigation

38-year-old man from Peterborough – gave a reading of 121, released under investigation

38-year-old man of no known address – gave an initial reading of 42, released with no further action (evidential sample of 34 in custody)

25-year-old woman from Peterborough – gave an initial reading of 44, released with no further action (evidential sample of 35 in custody)
