Peterborough man to appear at crown court charged with snail theft

A Peterborough man will appear at crown court next month charged with the theft of a snail.

Nadeem Atwell, 32, of Crabtree, Peterborough appeared at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on Friday charged with a number of offences - including a burglary where it is alleged a snail was stolen.

The alleged burglary is said to have taken place in the Stanground area of Peterborough last Monday, where it is said a giant African land snail and a television were taken.

He was also charged with drink driving and driving without insurance or a valid licence after he was arrested in Fengate on Thursday.

Atwell pleaded not guilty to the motoring offences, and will appear back at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court in July to stand trial.

The burglary case has been sent to Peterborough Crown Court, where a hearing will take place on May 21.
