Peterborough man fined after driving with wife in car boot for a 'joke'
A Peterborough man has been fined after a ‘joke’ in which he drove with his wife in the boot of his car.
Mohammed Iblal (28) of Dogsthorpe Road pleaded guilty to one count of use of a motor vehicle in a condition likely to cause danger of injury at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on Friday morning (March 13).
On February 18, police were called to Fengate with reports of a man placing a female into the boot of a car – a black BMW – and driving off towards the city centre.
Iblal told police at the scene that it was his wife and that there was no kidnap and that the whole thing was a joke.

The court heard his wife told officers it was a joke following a petty argument which resulted in Iblal saying “I’ll kidnap you then” to which she replied “I dare you.” She said they were laughing the entire time.
The court was told police said they had held extensive inquiries as they believed that a female had been kidnapped.
Defending, Mr Khan reiterated to the court that the couple were simply “messing about with one another” and were “completely oblivious to their surroundings.”
He added: “He drove a few metres and subsequently stopped and there were no injuries. He realises that, in the circumstances, things could have got out of hand.”
Iblal was fined a total of £215, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £86, costs of £85, and was given three points on his driving licence.
Sentencing, magistrate Mr Brown told Iblal: “This may have seemed like a bit of a joke while you were doing it but this has caused quite a lot of time to be used up in court and by the police. Do not do pranks like this again.”
