Peterborough man caught speeding in stolen Toyota Yaris jailed

A Peterborough man who was caught speeding in a stolen Toyota Yaris has been jailed.

Logan Cook’s driving was described as ‘unacceptable,’ and police said he ‘put other road users in danger’ by his actions in the city earlier this month.

Cambridgeshire Police said that Cook, 24, was spotted by officers in a marked patrol car in Dogsthorpe Road, Peterborough, on 18 January.

A spokesperson for the force said that the officers followed the Toyota Yaris Cook was driving along Exeter Road, where he drove at an estimated 45mph in a 30mph limit.

He turned onto the driveway of his home in Vere Road, where officers spoke to him.

They told Cook the car had been stolen two days earlier in Taverners Road, Peterborough, but he denied being responsible, saying he had purchased it the previous day.

However, when he appeared in court, Logan admitted a number of offences – driving without due care and attention, driving whilst disqualified, driving without a licence, driving without insurance and handling stolen goods.

Last week he appeared at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court he was jailed for a total of 28 weeks.

Speaking after the sentencing hearing, DC George Corney, from Cambridgeshire Police, said it was ‘lucky’ that Cook didn’t cause a crash.

DC Corney said: “Cook knew he didn’t have a valid licence or insurance, but he simply chose to risk it and get behind the wheel.

“His driving was unacceptable, putting other road users in danger and it’s lucky he didn’t cause a collision.”
