Peterborough burglars jailed after being caught in the act by homeowner

Two men have been jailed following an attempted burglary in Peterborough.

Jeremy Steel, 44, and Mark Cocksedge, 40, pleaded guilty at Peterborough Crown Court yesterday (January 18) and were sentenced to three years and two years respectively.

At about 9pm on October 21 last year the pair, from Towler Street, Peterborough, smashed a patio door of a home in Humphrys Street, Sugar Way.

However, they were quickly disturbed by the owner who had just returned home and heard the men break the glass.

Detective Constable Adam Blake said: “Despite being shaken up after seeing these two men attempting to break into her home, she quickly called police with detailed descriptions of what they were wearing and the route they had taken.

“Officers were quickly deployed and Steel and Cocksedge were subsequently arrested and brought before the courts.”

The force is prioritising burglary was part of Operation Hunter, which aims to put offenders before the courts while urging residents to take home security seriously.
